About Robin, Ph.D. & CCC-SLP
I help families with challenging children learn to build relationships, make use of co-regulation, and improve behaviors. My work with children of all abilities and families of all types spans thirty years, and includes work in schools, hospitals and in private practice.
I believe in working with families to support challenging children. While professionals might be able to connect with a challenging child in ways that his or her parents find difficult, this approach doesn't address the whole child, who is part of the family unit. I believe that all children benefit from relationship building, co-regulation, and a clear structure that improves behaviors. Given supportive instruction on how to set positive boundaries, all families have the capacity to put a smooth daily routine into place. Every step of the way, I will help you to achieve this kind of relationship with your child so that your family experience is harmonious.
Some of my past experiences include running a private speech and language therapy practice, starting a school for children with special needs, and spear-heading the development of parent and family curriculum for families with extraordinary needs. If you are struggling to understand your child, frustrated with behaviors you don't know how to manage, and looking for a solution that will actually work, you've come to the right place!
Our online community gives you the tools you need to reach your child, support their growth, and maintain your own sanity in the process. My individual coaching sessions focus on identifying your unique challenges and helping you to design solutions that work for you, your child, and your lifestyle. Many families find that a combination of the online community together with individual coaching provides the kind of support they need in order to work toward a sustainable relationship with their child/ren.
About Chelsey, Ph.D.
I was a working mom, and my stress levels were through the roof. At home, I had three children demanding my attention. At work, I had a high-profile team demanding my intellectual leadership. I was a big, giant mess and it was showing up in my children’s behaviors, their irregular sleep, and their every-hour-on-the-hour tantrums.
Exhausted and skeptical, I turned to my own mother. What I discovered blew me away.
I found a wide and generous community of people with their own challenging children, who were already applying the Positive Parenthood model. I found a way to build relationships with my littles that decreased tantrums and increased my sense of peace. I found an approach to parenting that acknowledged my parenting experience in a way that actually supported my children.
I decided I would do whatever I had to do to bring this model to everyone I know. With my mom’s curriculum at the center, I drew on my background as a PhD in Literacy and as a social justice educator to build these resources that bring Positive Parenthood to you.
At other times in my life, I have led youth media programming, contributed to academic research in the area of media, gender, and social justice, and run summer camp programming. You may see these experiences seep into my work with Positive Parenthood, but you will definitely see my mothering seep into my work with Positive Parenthood. I have three little girls, and they are the reason I’m here today with you, learning, attempting, creating, trying, and building the Positive Parenthood community.
